The Waste Evolution

Construction waste management has evolved significantly over time. What used to seem simple is now complex. How should soil and liquid wastes be characterized? What are options for disposal? What is beneficital reuse? What defines soil as clean, contaminated, or hazardous? What regulations and permits apply to hauling and disposal in different states?

The reality is that waste disposal and beneficial reuse is dynamic, subject to the constantly changing interstate regulatory landscape. Factor’s mission is to educate our clients on the entire process, from optimizing waste characterization sampling on the front end, to selecting final or reuse of excavated soils or pumped groundwater.

Moving Your Waste. Removing Your Liability.

Trucking is the most common means to transport excavated fill and liquid wastes. Treating our truckers well means that trucks show up on your project when you want them and keep your production on schedule. To that end, Factor fosters solid, long-term relationships with multiple qualified trucking partners, allowing us price control and customized solutions. Need Teamsters, prevailing wage, or non-union? No problem. Need minority business enterprise (MBE) or disadvantage business enterprise (DBE) credit? We can do that. Triaxles or trailers? Both are available. Custom rail or barge solutions? We will make it happen.

Factor does the up-front work so you don’t have to - we impliment rigorous trucking subcontracts and insurance provisions to protect our clients, we track required trucker permits, and we retain waste management documents (manifests, scale tickets, waste tracking forms, certified payrolls, and more).

Good Disposition

Cradle-to-Grave liability means that the generator and anyone that handles waste forever carries liability for proper disposal or allowed beneficial reuse. We work to minimize owner and GC liability through regulatory knowledge, proper characterization sampling, insurance instruments, solid subcontracts, permit/licensing tracking, and document control.

Factor maintains business relationships with many types of disposal and beneficial use facilities across multile states, allowing pricing control and flexible backup options to eliminate delays.

Reuse. Reapeat.

Recent regulatory changes have made reuse of excavated fill easier in certain scenarios. When practical, ruse of surplus on-site or at another site in need of fill can save significant time and money. In reality, successful reuse of fill is a function of location, tiling, available space, and firm understanding of solid waste regulations. When it does make sense, we can help
